In 2019, fueled by existing regional relationships and a commitment to meeting increased demand, Cooper Steel expanded its footprint to Childersburg, Alabama. The opening of Cooper Steel South was made possible through the acquisition of existing fabrication facilities, which provide essential support and enhanced capabilities. The expansion ensures the company can continue delivering excellence for large-scale projects across the region.

Cooper Steel, started in 1960 in Shelbyville, Tennessee, has remained a family owned and operated business from day one. By merging future-forward technology with the expertise of skilled tradespeople, we specialize in bringing complex, large-scale visions to life. The company’s foundation for success could undoubtedly be found in the Cooper family’s faith first, followed by hard work and incredible resolve to see the business flourish.

Our Community

Give Big, Expect Little.

We believe building is about more than structures — it extends to our community, leading and giving back to our neighbors.

That’s why the saying, ‘Give Big, Expect Little,’ is one of our core values and a guiding principle for our teams who embody the spirit of finding joy in generosity each day.

Cooper Steel South proudly partners with Childersburg Elementary School to promote literacy and personal growth through our initiative, the Cooper Steel Reading Program.

The program sets goals for students to read throughout the school year on a minute-read basis rather than the number of total books read, with the goal to encourage students to read more, keep improving, and reach their goals during the school year.

By reaching the benchmark of 1,000 minutes read, students can earn a brand new, name brand pair of shoes. The 2025-2026 school year marked the launch of this initiative for Cooper Steel South and, so far, more than 100 students have been awarded their new books and shoes.
